Clay Clouds
This series was conceived in response to the climate crisis.  Clouds form and disappear in response to topography and temperature, significantly impacting climate change in a complex feedback loop.
Clouds manifest a state of flux and contrasts,  hugely dynamic and inspirational - on the one hand, they are beautiful, ethereal, heavenly, on the other, they wield immense destructive powers (through drought or flooding). I use clay as a metaphor to represent this challenge of physical opposites.
The clay clouds are hand-built within a forma, using individually moulded facets.
Layered matte and glossy glazes undergo multiple firings to achieve a modulated surface that accentuates the form.

Large Storm Cloud (2023)
A hand-built ceramic piece, made from individual facets that are joined to create a structure reminiscent of a cumulus congestus cloud. The piece is trimmed and shaved before being fired, becoming intentionally light.
KGM clay, electric fired crackle, matte and glossy glaze with black stain.
Changing Weather (2024)
Three hollow Möbius strip cloud formations may be placed in multiple aesthetic configurations. The glass dome represents our planet’s enclosed and finite ecosphere.
KGM clay, Flock. Glass dome, wooden base.
Configuration A
Clay
Configuration B
Configuration C
Changing Weather: Interactive participation with cloud formations. It is possible to positioning the facets to build storms, condense, or disburse the formation.

Cloud Basket (2023)
One stage of a climate crisis journey is mapped onto the undulating underside of the cloud basket, its form mirrors sunlight and shadow rolling over hillsides,

Every Cloud has a precious metal Lining (2022-23)
Thin, punning clouds, marbled and crackled exteriors, silver leaf or silver nitrate bespoke raku glaze interiors.
Made to hang in mid-air.
